Diploma and bachelor’s projects focused on transforming the area along the Elbe River into a safe and environmentally sensitive neighbourhood are being developed in the Palacký–Dokoupilová studio, in cooperation between the Department of the Chief Architect of the City of Hradec Králové and the Faculty of Architecture at Brno University of Technology.

During the winter semester, two teams of three students each worked on the project. They first carried out a comprehensive analysis of the entire area, and in the subsequent design phase each student focused on a specific part of the locality. Their work builds on the results of a public questionnaire survey conducted in December 2025 and January 2026, with the participation of residents and users of the area bounded by Resslova Street, tř. Karla IV., 5. května Square and Smetanovo nábřeží in Hradec Králové.

The main finding of this extensive survey was a critical mismatch between the high proportion of pedestrian movement and the poor quality of the street-level environment. As many as 77% of residents expressed that the current conditions limit safe mobility and opportunities for neighbourly encounters.

The urban design proposal is being developed in her diploma thesis by Bc. Tereza Zemánková, who also contributed to the analytical phase and the evaluation of street quality using the Healthy Streets methodology, as well as to assessing the results of the public survey. Her project reflects the voice of residents in shaping proposals for public spaces, streets, and parks.
